Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how WeeBro (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects and uses information when you use the WeeBro app and website. It’s a practical placeholder while a lawyer-reviewed version is prepared. It is designed for UK GDPR (also broadly compatible with EU GDPR).
Quick Summary
- We use your location (with your permission) to show incidents near you.
- If you register, we store your account data (email, display name) and your incident posts, votes, and comments.
- Incidents are community-sourced and generally expire automatically (e.g., ~24 hours) by design.
- We rely on trusted providers like Google Firebase (Auth/Firestore) and Google Maps.
- You have rights over your data (access, deletion, etc.). Contact: privacy@weebro.app.

What we collect
Information you provide
- Account data (if you register): email, display name/username.
- Incident reports: category, description, approximate location/address, optional photo.
- Community inputs: votes (thumbs up/down), quick comment selections (“More info needed”, etc.).
- Support requests or feedback you send to us.
Information we get when you use WeeBro
- Location (with your permission): to center the map and show nearby incidents. You can switch this off in your device/browser.
- Device & usage: basic logs (IP address, device/browser type, timestamps, app events) for security and reliability.
- Cookies/local storage: we primarily use
localStoragefor preferences. Firebase/Auth and Google Maps may set cookies required for their services.
How we use your information
- To provide the app: show nearby incidents, let you post/verify incidents, show your own incidents.
- To keep the community useful and safe: remove stale/duplicate posts, counter abuse, detect suspicious patterns.
- To improve WeeBro: diagnose problems, understand feature usage at an aggregate level.
- To comply with law or enforce our terms, where necessary.
Legal bases (UK/EU GDPR)
- Performance of a contract: to deliver core app features (show incidents, manage your account).
- Legitimate interests: to prevent abuse/fraud, keep the service secure, and improve functionality in a proportionate way.
- Consent: for geolocation, optional notifications, and where required for certain cookies or marketing (we currently don’t run marketing tracking).
- Legal obligations: to comply with applicable laws or lawful requests.
Sharing & disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited data with:
- Service providers that help us run WeeBro (data processors), notably:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, storage)
- Google Maps Platform (maps, geocoding/tiles)
- Authorities if reasonably necessary to protect life/safety, prevent crime, or comply with law.
- Other users and the public: your incident content is designed to be visible to nearby users for safety awareness. Please do not include personal/sensitive info.
International transfers
Our providers (e.g., Google) may process data on servers outside the UK/EEA. When this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect personal data in line with UK/EU requirements.
Retention
- Incidents: the app is designed so incidents typically expire (e.g., ~24 hours) to keep feeds current. Backups or logs may persist briefly for reliability and safety.
- Account data: kept while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove or de-identify personal data unless we must keep it to comply with law, resolve disputes, or prevent abuse.
- Device/usage logs: retained for a limited period for security and diagnostics.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures (TLS in transit, controlled access, least-privilege, monitoring). No system is perfectly secure; we encourage you to avoid posting sensitive personal information in incidents.
Your rights (UK/EU)
You can request:
- Access to your personal data;
- Correction of inaccurate data;
- Deletion (right to be forgotten) where applicable;
- Restriction or objection to certain processing;
- Portability of data you provided, where technically feasible;
- To withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (e.g., geolocation, notifications).
Contact: privacy@weebro.app. We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request.
Children
WeeBro is not directed to children under 13. If we learn we have collected personal data from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will delete it.
Community content
- Please post responsibly. Do not include names, faces, licence plates, addresses, or other sensitive data in incident descriptions or photos.
- Images are optional and should be safe to share publicly.
- We may remove content that appears abusive, unlawful, or violates our guidelines.
- WeeBro is informational only and not a substitute for contacting emergency services.
Cookies & local storage
WeeBro uses local storage (e.g., preferences/radius) and essential cookies set by authentication or map providers. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can control cookies via your browser settings; turning off essential cookies may limit functionality.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the “Effective date” above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the app.
